Applying the science:
SCCD employees sit on boards and committees that focus on water conservation that affects Sublette County. These include the Wyoming Anticipating Climate Transactions (WYACT), Snake River Headwaters Watershed Group (SRHWG) and Colorado River Advisory Committee.
Snake River Headwaters Watershed Group
Wyoming Anticipating Climate Transactions
The Snake River Headwaters Watershed Group SRHWG is a collaborative special-interest group that was established to share information and to provide education about the issues surrounding the Snake River Headwaters Watershed. The purpose of the group is to bring a broad coalition of partners together to ensure a resilient and healthy Snake River Headwaters ecosystem with clean and ample water to meet the needs of current and future generations. WyACT, led by the University of Wyoming, will establish lasting and nationally competitive capabilities and infrastructure that improves predictive understanding of the coupled human-environment impacts of climate change on water availability. WyACT is intended to enable Wyoming’s communities to anticipate and prepare for significant and lasting changes in water availability. The University of Wyoming plans to launch observational infrastructure and stakeholder engagement activities in each of the three watersheds (Snake, Wind, Green) during this 5-year project.
Colorado River Advisory Committee
The purpose of the committee is to advise and inform the Governor, the State Engineer and Wyoming's Commissioner to the Upper Colorado River Commission regarding the beneficial use, development, protection and conservation of water from the Green and Little Snake rivers and their tributaries relative to Wyoming's rights and obligations under the 1922 Colorado River Compact and the 1948 Upper Colorado River Basin Compact. Wyoming Colorado River Advisory Committee members are appointed by Governor Mark Gordon. Click on the image for more information.
